Joanne Smith - Chartered Physiotherapist

I am a Chartered Physiotherapist, registered with the health professional council.

I have over 20 years experience and have worked in the field of trauma and othopaedics, both in the NHS and independent health care sector.

The management of sports injuries has been a major interest and I have been fortunate to work at club level in the field of rugby and at elite level in both ice skating (figure & speed skating) and gynastics (artistic and rythmic). In the case of gynastics I was a member of the Medical Commission for British Gymnastics Association between 1993 and 2000, supporting the team at international competitions both at home and abroad.

More recently my work has been in the field of dance - classical ballet.

I have a passion for the prevention of injury and worked as a tutor for a number of years in delivering a training module through the National Coaching Foundation to sports coaches on the treatment and prevention of injury.

I am a member of the multi-disciplinary team you have access to here at The Hampton.

As a physiotherapist my expertise in the management of an injury is centered on movement analysis. It is essential to identify the cause of the disfunction and together with your personal trainer we can devise a treatment programme to meet your individual needs.

The aim of treatment would be to:
  • Ensure safe return to sport
  • To provide you with a knowledge of the key aspects of prevention of injury
  • To be certain that your maintenance programme becomes routine
  • To provide ongoing support in terms of advice or review, as meets your particular needs
For further information or advice please liaise with Paul or Gareth.
Alternatively sign up for the open clinic - an initial 15 minute consultation is free to all gym members.
