Solihull Active for Life

DocSpot

The Hampton’s DocSpot Exercise Referral Scheme helps provide the Solihull borough with the option of exercise over medication where possible.

DocSpot/Active For Life has been operating at The Hampton Health & Fitness Club since January 2011 and is supported by both Solihull and Coventry Councils.

We are very proud to share that we are the number 1 performing GP referral site in Solihull, with a 93.3% completion rate compared to all the other DocSpot sites within the Solihull borough which are performing at 42% or lower.

The Hampton Health & Fitness Club’s provision of DocSpot/Active For Life is unique in the area; when you join you will spend time with a qualified coach who will get to know you and assess your medical condition and any medication you take.

Once this is done you will be provided with a unique Activity Plan and Nutrition Programme (as required) suited just for you. You will have a nominated coach for the duration of your programme as well as access to The Hampton Health & Fitness Club’s GP Referral Consultant on a weekly basis.

The Hampton Health & Fitness Club DocSpot community enjoys brilliant results including positive weight loss statistics, endurance improvements for those with COPD and stable angina, impressive mobility gains for those suffering with Strokes, Fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s and arthritic conditions.

A patients DocSpot journey at The Hampton:

After completing DocSpot participants  are welcome to stay at the Hampton and continue with their programme, often with their newly made friends.

Carol’s full recount of her experience at The Hampton…

I was referred to Doc Spot by a health care professional at my doctors surgery following a prolonged period of a debilitating illness which had resulted in a decline in my physical and mental well being. I felt apprehensive and doubtful that I could achieve any level of exercise feeling as low as I was at the time. But I also recognised that something had to change if I wanted to feel better, and the effort had to come from me.

I almost didnít make the initial meeting with Paul at Hampton Health and Fitness Club, having a confidence crisis on the car park and almost driving back home. But, with a tremendous amount of mental effort and words of encouragement from a good friend I did go in and was met by friendly face with words of support and positivity. I have never looked back.

The fitness programme run by Martin meets the requirements of a diverse group of people with a wide range of health and mobility issues. I felt no pressure to work harder than I felt comfortable with, and over the weeks my balance, breathing and general health started to improve. So much so, that I am now a regular visitor the the gym taking full advantage of the great facilities available to members and my health and well-being continues to improve. As an older person I would recommend anyone to take advantage of Doc Spot – who knows where it will lead you, but itís a move in the right direction and a great way to meet people and make new friends.
